CSR in Exhibition Halls?

Amazing things happen when people connect. This year, Exco has focused on Corporate Social Responsibility through talent donation activities.

  

Exco has been doing social contribution activities since 2011. Such as advising local events and providing marketing supports on trade shows. Since this year, exco has started new sales promotion of the local specialties.

Last year, exco has undertaken consultation and supported goods for the 'Hoeryongpo Moonlight Festival', which is the festival held in Yechon city Yonggungmyeon - a village 

that made alliance with exco. Also providing booths for participation in DAFOOD2015 (Daegu Food Industry Festival). 

Organizing 15 exhibitions every year, exco is using and exhibition as a place of social contribution. At Daegu Pet Show: Abandoned dog adoption campaign, Daegu Urban Agriculture EXPO 2015: Nature protection through urban agriculture development. Fire EXPO Korea: Fire safety training for children. Daegu Baby&Kids Fair, which is the biggest public consumer exhibition held in exco, has raised 7,725 dollars this year by auction to help single mothers in Daegu. And has also provided booths for social organizations such as Unicef.

Exco is also continuing education activities in order to promote exhibition and convention industry. This year, we have invited children of Yecheon Yonggungmyeon and provided education experience events and also held familiarization tour for 240 students. We are planning to do special social contributions targeted at teenagers next year.

What kind of Color, Animal are you?

In Korea, each year has its own representative colored animal. This year was the 'blue horse year', and the following 2016 is the year of 'red monkeys'. It is decided by a simple rule using the sexagenary cycle. A cycle of sixty years used in the calendar of China and some other countries such as Korea and Japan. It is based on the combination of two basic cycles of ten and twelve. The traditional method of numbering days and years no longer has any significant role nowadays, but it is used as a metaphorical way to tell one's age.

Introduce yourself in a sexagenary cycle, the response would be more than surprised!

   For example, If you were born in 1986, you are born in Byeong In Nyeon(year).
First, as you can see on the right table, as tje heavenly stem is 'Byeong' you are born on the 'Red' year. Second step is the earthly stems, which is 'In', the corresponding animal is tiger. Therefore you were born on the 'Red Tiger Year'.

  In the same way, year 2016 is the year of
Red Monkeys. I recommend not to say Byeong Shin year out loud because even though it has different meanings, it is a synonym of a swear word!

Lee Insung Apple Tree Street

At Daegu Gyesan catholic church, there is a persimmon tree called 'Lee In Sung Tree'. It is derived from Lee Insung's painting 'Gyesandong Sungdang(Gyesan catholic Church)'.

Born at Daegu 1912, Lee Insung is one of the representative painters of Korea's modern western art. Some call him the 'Korean Paul Gauguin'. He built an western art institute at 1936, at the time when even a small art school didn't exist at Daegu. He died young at 39 years old, but his powerful stroke of brush and loud color remains forever.

To honor his legacy, Daegu has created an 'Lee Insung Apple Tree Street' this June. Located nearby EXCO, his paintings has been reproduced on the street walls at the size of over 7 meters. Interestingly, the mural of his famous masterpiece <Apple Tree> is painted more red than the original painting. It has a meaning of finishing the spirit of the modern age, which they could not finish due to Japanese colonial period.

Recently, the second mural project was finished by the community service center and Lee Insung Art Center headquarters. Students and residents who live near the Apple tree street has involved in the mural work. They have suggested ideas such as making photo zones,  re-creating the cafe 'ARS', a cafe which Lee Insung has managed, which means 'Art' in Latin.

Can Water Mean Business?

Since the moment you learn how to turn on the faucet, you also learn that you should turn off the faucet when you don't use it in order to saver water. And also learn some facts such as purifying a drop of milk costs 1.6 liter of water. Therefore, everybody knows the importance of water. But not many knows that water can be business. Some might see it in a negative way in that using natural resource as a way to earn profit. But thinking in an other point of view, water is the new blue ocean.

The water use has increased at more than twice the rate of the earth's population growth in the last century. And it is expected at the future, water management will become more important not only in a business view, but also in the humanitarian point of view.

In an act to solve water issues and develop the Water industry, The 4th Water Expo Korea has taken place at Daegu from Oct.28 to 30. This year's Water Expo Korea is more meaningful in the fact that Daegu Metropolitan City is planning to construct the"Korea Water Industry Cluster” by 2017, which will be able to help the companies expand overseas and establish businesses network. And this year International Water Nexus Conference, World Water Cities Forum and also other conferences will concurrently be held.

No need to be disappointed even if you're not good at planting. Because more and more people are just raising plants for a simple reason, comforting themselves. Not only just a simple fad, it’s becoming a part of one’s lifestyle, such as weekend farm, rooftop garden and air-plants.

There is also even a entertainment show about Urban Farming. Ingan-ui Jogeon : Dosi nongbu (Requirements for being a Human : Urban Farmer), 

a show program from KBS2TV. It’s a show that Musicians, Chefs, Comedians grow crops at the rooftop garden. And by also cooking the crops they have planted, the casts realize the importance of nature and the value of labor.
